NANCY CASSIDY'S
Kid's Music
 Twenty
years ago Dr. Seuss published a book about a feline in an oversized
piece of headgear that worked "like a karate chop" on the
weary little world of Dick and Jane. They never recovered. Nor did
the old line of traditional children's literature.
Today, children's music is going through the same
kind of change. Ding-dong chimes and quavering melodies just don't
make it anymore a trend most clearly in evidence with the
ongoing success of Nancy Cassidy's 5 bouncing children's tapes:
KidsSongs, KidsSongs 2, Jubilee, Sleepyheads, and Hullabaloo. Ken Whiteley, who has produced, performed or written much of the most
innovative and popular children's music of the last 25 years was
the producer.
Children's music has more than quadrupled in total
sales volume over the past years. According to Dennis Ronberg, owner
of Linden Tree Children's Records and Books in Los Altos, CA Nancy's
tapes are a good example why. The series "has great lyrics
and music. Nancy doesn't sing down to her audience . . . kids and
parents enjoy the tapes."
In addition to singing favorite classics and playing
the guitar, Nancy writes a number of her own songs. One of them
"Chicken Lips and Lizard Hips," was recorded by Bruce
Springsteen on a benefit tape for the Pediatric Aids Foundation.
Another song, "I Wanna Be A Dog," was beamed up to the
astronauts on a recent shuttle flight, making Nancy one of the first
children's artists with an orbital audience!
With more than 2 million CDs sold worldwide Nancy
has entered the big leagues of recording by going through the kids'
entrance.
